Manual Upload Wilcard Files

Introduction

In this guide, we will show you how to combine and append multiple files in a data application. We will use the example of dropping multiple files in a data application and combining them. This guide will take you step by step through the process of managing and uploading files.

Step 1: Accessing the Data Application

First, access the data application. Once you have accessed the application, navigate to the “Manage Upload Files” section. This is where you will upload your files.

Step 2: Uploading Your First File

Select the file that you want to upload from your desktop. The example used in this guide is an open data file from the UK about diary visits to farms. Once you have selected the file, the data application will automatically upload the file to the back end of the application.

Step 3: Creating the Landing Title and History Table

The data application will automatically create the landing title and the history table for you. You will need to wait a few minutes for the history table to be created.

Step 4: Uploading New Versions of Your File

Once you have used your data and realized that it has value, you will want to upload new versions of the same file. If the file name is exactly the same, you can use the same feature again to manage file upload, and bring in the new file. The data application will automatically grab it and append it to the history table.

Step 5: Handling Slightly Different File Names

If the file names are slightly different, you will need to create a wildcard rule. You can create a wildcard rule by going into rows and duplicating the rule that was automatically created when you uploaded your data for the first time. Once you have duplicated the rule, change the rule to say that it is a landing rule. Then, go to the “From” section and change it to say “fall drop to landing.” Finally, add a wildcard to the end of the file name.

Step 6: Testing the Rule

Once you have created the rule, test it by uploading a file with a different name. The data application will automatically move the data into its own new title and trigger the history table to load the data.

Step 7: Checking for Duplicate Files

When you upload files, the data application checks the files to make sure that it has not seen them before. If the files are exactly the same, the data application knows not to load them again.

Conclusion:

This guide has shown you how to combine and append multiple files in a data application. By following these steps, you can manage and upload your files with ease. The data application will automatically create the landing title and history table for you, making it easier for you to use your data.
