2026-04-23 - BigQuery Column Metadata Preserved on Sync

Release

AgileData.io - Keep What You’ve Built: BigQuery Column Metadata Survives Sync

When AgileData syncs table structure from BigQuery, your existing column metadata is now preserved. Previously, a sync could overwrite custom column context you had added — this update ensures your work stays intact.

When you add descriptions, tags, or other context to columns in the AgileData catalog, that information represents real effort from your team. Syncing from BigQuery to pick up schema changes should not undo that work. We’ve updated the sync process to only update what needs to change (the structural information from BigQuery), while leaving your catalog metadata untouched.

What’s New:

  • BigQuery column metadata (bq_column attributes) preserved when syncing table structure

  • Sync updates schema changes without overwriting user-added catalog context

  • Consistent behaviour for all BigQuery-sourced tables

What this means for you:

  • Catalog enrichment work is safe — sync your BigQuery tables without losing your annotations

  • Schema changes in BigQuery are reflected without disrupting your metadata

  • More confidence in keeping your catalog up to date
